Book Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

J.K. Rowling is the author of the famous Harry Potter series. She was born on July 31’ 1965 at Yate General Hospital. Rowling conceived the idea of Harry Potter in 1990 while sitting on a delayed train. Over the next five years, she began to map out all seven books of the series.

The book starts with an introduction of an orphan named Harry James Potter who was the famous kid who survived the attack of Lord Voldemort (the evil wizard). Later, Harry comes to know that both his parents were wizards and he also has magical powers with him.

He lives with his Uncle and Aunt (Mr and Mrs. Dursley) who are very rude and cruel towards him. Harry receives an opportunity and an invitation to study at “Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry”.

Harry begins his magical journey and also has made good friends- Hagrid, Ron and Hermione. Harry is very famous at Hogwarts because of the incident that he survived , the Lord Voldemort’s attack. He was “the boy who lived”. He also had a scar on his forehead from that incident. Harry tries to adapt himself in the new wizardry environment because he didn’t know he was a wizard until Hagrid came and told him. He has also made an enemy – Draco Malfoy who was very rude to him.

The book has beautifully described Harry’s whole journey. How he reached Hogwarts and faced all the challenges. Every detail has been written in the book. Harry made many friends and always had his friends back. He was ready to face any challenges in order to save his friends. In the end , the book has also described how he risked his own life to save Ron and Hermione. Ron was a red-haired , kind and a bit dumb boy. Hermione was a very clever and brave girl.

Harry was an introvert and a brave boy. Rowling has described every characters characteristics very nicely. Readers will find themselves completely lost in another world of wizards and Hogwarts by reading this book as every scene and everything feels real. Apart from all the magic and stuff, Harry also faced many challenges and problems which he and his friends faced bravely. The ‘Quidditch’ game has been also described.

There are characters in this book through which all the readers could relate. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley’s son Dudley is a spoiled fat kid and everyone knows a spoiled kid in their lives. A sweet yet clever girl like Hermione, every person knows a Hermione in their life.

The Hogwarts principle Dumbledore is also a very sweet and kind- hearted man. All the characters habits, traits, talents, flaws are shown perfectly in the book. A whole different world is shown in the book where multiple tragedies, magical things happen around Hogwarts. There are wizards and also ‘Muggles’ – people who don’t know magic.

Harry’s mother was a wizard and his mother’s sister (Mrs. Dursley) was a Muggle, that is why they never bonded and Mr. And Mrs. Dursley treated Harry very badly after his parents death when he started living with them. Harry also became the star player of his Quidditch team (the favoured sport in the magical world).

Harry became the ‘Seeker’ of his Quidditch team like his father. Everyone in the wizard world knows about Harry and his family’s past more than him. Hogwarts is a truly magical place, not only in the most obvious way but also in all the sheer detail that the author has gone to describe it.

It is the place that everybody wishes they could have been to when they were eleven. In Hogwarts school everything is magical, the stairs move by itself, the paintings and portraits talk, the newspapers also have a moving picture. In the dining hall, whatever you wish to eat comes in front of you. Over all the book is a must read and you will get lost in it completely.
